How we are helping

Experian volunteers attended government fairs that aimed to enhance financial inclusion in underserved regions of Colombia.

Addressing gaps in financial inclusion

Financial inclusion remains low in some regions of Colombia. Some of the most significant gaps in access to formal financial services are in rural areas.

We participated in a series of popular economy fairs organised by the Colombian government to improve financial inclusion and empower people to move away from informal credit to access formal financial services.

The events targeted cities in remote regions where access to financial products and services is limited.

Sharing our expertise and services

More than 50 colleagues from Datacrédito Experian volunteered more than 200 hours at nine of popular economy fairs in 2023/24 – in cities such as Apartadó, Fusagasugá, Quibdó and Tumaco.

Through face-to-face sessions, they helped consumers review, understand and learn how to improve their credit profiles to support them in gaining access to formal financial services. They also showed people how to register on our online midatacrédito portal so they could take the information with them on their mobile phones with free access to our platform for one month.

By talking to consumers directly, leaders of our product and commercial teams learned more about the barriers and limitations faced by vulnerable populations in Colombia. They will use this information to look for ways to enhance financial inclusion by improving our existing products or to develop new social innovation products to meet specific needs.
