How we are helping

We're teaching yong people in the USA how to start their financial journey strong through our B.A.L.L. For Life online courses, roadshows and competitions.

The Challenge

  • Two in five (40%) US consumers under the age of 25 are 'credit invisible'.
  • If lenders can’t assess their creditworthiness, young people can struggle to get the credit they need to support their education and access essentials in life.
  • Communities of colour are disproportionately affected - over 25% Black and over 25% Hispanic, compared with 16% white and 16% Asian.
  • Learning about credit and finances can help young people improve their financial literacy and bridge the wealth gap. But it can often feel inaccessible.

Our solution

Our B.A.L.L. (Be A Legacy Leader) for Life financial education programme aims to empower the next generation to secure their financial future and define their legacy. It has a particular focus on underserved communities.

B.A.L.L. for Life offers free online courses and resources, as well as fun and engaging live events like The Legacy League Game ShowTM and the annual #IYKYK (If You Know You Know) pitch competition.

The Legacy League Game ShowTM  is a high-energy, interactive roadshow that tours US colleges and universities. It combines music, entertainers, games and prizes with technical learning to engage students. Influencers take to the stage to add to the excitement.

Our #IYKYK pitch competition is run in partnership with HomeFree-USA’s Center for Financial Advancement®. Teams of students pitch their ideas for solutions to enhance financial literacy. In the latest round, a team from Fisk University won the US$40,000 scholarship grand prize for their idea of a personalised gaming experience to help teenagers develop positive money habits.

Impact

  • Over 150,000 people reached through B.A.L.L. for Life
  • Students reached from 30 US colleges and universities
  • 99.6% of The Legacy League Game Show participants say it increased their financial literacy
